Chia Jam

The World Health Organisation recently recommended that adults and children reduce their daily intake of free sugars to less than 10% of their total energy intake and that a further reduction to below 5% or roughly 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day would provide additional health benefits. http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2015/sugar-guideline/en/

In light of this recommendation it is important to review the menu provided to children including the sandwiches we serve every day. Chia jam is a healthy substitute to traditional jams and is very easy to make.

What you need: 1 teaspoon of chia seeds per 1 cup of frozen fruit.

Method: In a container place 1 cup of frozen fruit such as strawberries or blueberries. Add one teaspoon of chia seeds and mash together. Leave in the fridge overnight then mix through before using.YUM!
