Botanical Printing – Children love to paint. It is wonderful to allow children to experiment with different medians and painting techniques. It is also enjoyable for the children to go out into the garden and pick leaves and flowers which they can then use creatively. For this activity you will need leaves, paint, paint brushers, rollers, smocks, scrap paper, paper for pressing your leaves and good card paper. Below we experimented with different shaped leaves.Choose a leaf with great leaf structure for maximum effect. Put the leave on a piece of scrap paper and paint the leaf using a brush. Press the leaf onto card paper. Place a third piece of paper over the top of this leaf then press down with a roller. We used a jar for our roller. When children feel confident they can graduate from using paper to fabric. The leaf designs look great on pillowcases, bags or hankies.
